LabStar Software, Data Privacy, and the GDPR

Written by Jeff Noles, posted May 21, 2018 • Blog, News

On Friday, May 25th, the European Union will implement a new data privacy law known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).  To help our European customers comply with this new law, LabStar has published our new privacy policy for EU-based individuals here.   The purpose of the GDPR is to give people in the EU more control over how their data is used and managed.

To comply with the GDPR, we will release a new lookup feature on May 25th to help LabStar customers:

  • Lookup personal information for all patients and LabStar users
  • Download personal information for all patients and LabStar users into a CSV file

We are pleased to extend these personal lookup and download features to all LabStar users.  The lookup feature is permission-based, so you can decide who gets access to it.  All EU-based LabStar users also have the option of requesting deletion of personal information, and depending on your location outside the EU we may provide you with the same option.  Although LabStar collects very little personal data about patients and users, we believe all users should have access to tools that strengthen privacy rights.

As required by law, all EU-based users have already been sent a copy of the new EU privacy policy and several documents for their signatures.  If you are an EU-based lab and haven’t received this document package, let us know.

For more details about the lookup feature, check the Help Center on May 25th.
